About This Safari Tour

4-Day Ngorongoro Crater & Tarangire Safari | Tanzania Wildlife Tours.
Embark on an unforgettable 4-Day Ngorongoro Crater & Tarangire Safari through two of Tanzania’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. Beginning and ending in Arusha, this expertly guided journey carries you across the game-rich plains of Tarangire National Park and down into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater—a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called the eighth wonder of the natural world. Along the way you’ll encounter lions, elephants, flamingos, and rare species such as the lesser kudu and gerenuk, all set against lush forests, open savannah, and majestic baobab landscapes.
Why Choose This 4-Day Ngorongoro Crater & Tarangire Safari
This safari packs the very best of Tanzania’s northern circuit into four well-paced days. You’ll travel in a comfortable 4×4 vehicle with a professional English-speaking guide, stay in carefully selected lodges, and enjoy unhurried game drives timed for the best wildlife activity. It’s an ideal option for first-time visitors, families, and photographers who want iconic scenery and dense wildlife without a long, demanding itinerary.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park Depart Arusha after breakfast and drive to Tarangire, famed for its giant elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. Enjoy an afternoon game drive along the Tarangire River before checking into your lodge. Tarangire is managed by the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), which oversees conservation across the country’s parks.
Day 2: Tarangire to the Ngorongoro Highlands A morning game drive gives you more time among Tarangire’s wildlife before you transfer toward the Ngorongoro highlands, passing through the farmlands and coffee estates of the Karatu region. Settle into your lodge on the crater rim, ready for the highlight of the trip.
Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater Floor Descends more than 600 metres onto the crater floor for a full day of game viewing. This is one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five in a single drive, along with flamingos on Lake Magadi. Learn more about the area from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), the body that protects this remarkable landscape.
Day 4: Return to Arusha Enjoy a relaxed morning before beginning your return journey to Arusha, arriving in time for onward travel or an overnight stay, with unforgettable memories of your safari.
Wildlife You’ll Encounter
Across the two parks you can expect to see elephants in large herds, lions, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, and—with luck—leopards and rhinos to complete the Big Five. Ngorongoro’s alkaline lakes draw flocks of pink flamingos, while Tarangire is home to rarer dry-country species such as the lesser kudu and gerenuk. More than 500 bird species have been recorded in the region, making it a rewarding destination for birdwatchers too.
Best Time to Visit
The dry season, from June to October, offers the easiest game viewing, as animals gather around permanent water sources and vegetation is sparse. The green season, from November to May, brings lush scenery, newborn wildlife, and excellent birding, along with quieter parks. This safari runs year-round, and our team is happy to advise on the best dates for your interests.
